Grid Activities in the Czech Republic

The Czech Republic takes part in the European DataGrid Project (EDG) via the instituions CESNET (Czech scientific network provider) - work package WP1 and WP7, and the Institute of Physics of the Academy os Sciences of the Czech Republic - WP6. A Certification authority at CESNET and testbed farms were created during the project.

The Czech Republic is active in several important HEP projects as ATLAS, ALICE, D0 and STAR where it takes part in detector simulaton activities and also reconstruction and data analysis in running projects under collaboration of the Institute of Physics, Charles University in Prague and Czech technical University in Prague. The new facilities created in the framework of the EDG project are steadily started to be used by the HEP projects especially under the schedule of the LHC Computing Grid Project (LCG) in the scope of its Grid Deployment board, where CZ also contributes. The Czech Republic is also a member of the EGEE project proposal.

Basic grid infrastructure with a good international network connection (1 Gbps over Geant and 1 Gbps over CzechLight) has been created in the Czech Republic and is ready to deliver services to HEP experiments. Further extension to other research or commercial needs should be possible.
