We report on an application of computing advances made at CERN in (a) the CRISTAL project, tracking the construction of the CMS ECAL detector, and (b) data grids, especially the Alice Environment (AliEn). The MammoGrid project harnesses these technologies together with independent advances in image processing to improve breast cancer screening programmes in Europe.
