The 18th Lomonosov Conference on Elementary Particle Physics will start tommorow, on 24 August 2017 in the Lomonosov Moscow State University. The series of the Lomonosov Conferences started to be held on a regular basis in the year 1992, and since 1993 the conferences have been organized each odd year. The 18th Lomonosov Conference is dedicated to the 25th anniversary since foundation of this series of events.  More in Russian

On 21 August 2017, JINR celebrated the 108th anniversary of the birth of Nikolai Nikolaevich Bogoliubov, the outstanding Soviet mathematician and theoretical physicist, the first Director of the JINR Laboratory of Theoretical Physics and JINR Director in 1965-1988. On 31 July – 5 August 2017, the International Workshop Supersymmetries & Quantum Symmetries (SQS’2017) will be held in the Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics of JINR. In a lab at CERN, a DUNE prototype detector recorded its first particle tracks on 21 June 2017. The prototype holds five active tons—3000 liters—of liquid argon. It’s small compared to the end goal of DUNE, which will hold 40,000 active tons of liquid argon.   More in Russian

Today at the EPS Conference on High Energy Physics in Venice, the LHCb experiment at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider has reported the observation of Ξ_cc⁺⁺(Xi_cc⁺⁺) a new particle containing two charm quarks and one up quark. The existence of this particle from the baryon family was expected by current theories, but physicists have been looking for such baryons with two heavy quarks for many years.  More in Russian

The most precise measurement ever of the mass of the proton suggests that the particle is a tiny bit lighter than the current accepted value. Although the difference is less than one part in 10 billion, it has a statistical significance of 3σ.  More in Russian

27 June is the Youth Day in Russia. The history of Russian Youth Day begins in the Soviet Union. On 7 February 1958, the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union established Day of Soviet Youth. It was celebrated on the last Sunday in June. Later, in 1993, it was moved it to a fixed date, 27 June. The holiday was renamed Russian Youth Day.

The first thing assembled inside the yoke of the legendary Synchrophasotron in the frames of the NICA mega-project was the beam electron cooling system in the Booster which is a new element of the future accelerator. The facility was delivered to the Veksler and Baldin Laboratory of High Energy Physics of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research from Novosibirsk and was installed in its regular position in the spring 2017.  More imformation

The LIGO Scientific Collaboration and the VIRGO Collaboration are proud to jointly-announce the detection of a third gravitational-wave event: GW170104, yet another coalescence of two stellar-mass black holes. The LHCb experiment finds intriguing anomalies in the way some particles decay. If confirmed, these would be a sign of new physics phenomena not predicted by the Standard Model of particle physics. The observed signal is still of limited statistical significance, but strengthens similar indications from earlier studies. Forthcoming data and follow-up analyses will establish whether these hints are indeed cracks in the Standard Model or a statistical fluctuation.   More in Russian
