Theoretical and Experimental Investigations of the Electronuclear Method of Energy Production and Radioactive Waste Transmutation

Scientific Programme:

• Measurement at the JINR Phasotron of spallation product yields, angular distributions and neutron energy from the Pb-Bi targets irradiated with 200-660 MeV protons. Measurement at the LHE accelerator of a neutron yield in the uranium target irradiated with a 0.8-3.5 GeV proton beam.
• Preparation of a project of the experimental electronuclear installation SAD of the power of 20 kWt based on standard fuel element of the BN-600 reactor with MOX fuel containing 25-28% of PuO₂ (93-95% enriched in ²³⁹Pu), being the rest of UO₂ and driven by the 660MeV Phasotron proton beam.
• Further development of the computer programs based on new algorithms and more precise nuclear physics models to calculate particles and ions transport in multiplying media. Processing of experimental data obtained from the DLNP and LHE accelerators on neutron yield and their differential distributions. Simulation of various type electronuclear systems and their components due to the preparation of the project SAD. A comparison of the electronuclear systems using the uranium-plutonium and thorium fuel will be accomplished.
