Particle Accelerator Physics and Engineering

Scientific Programme:

• Development of the electron cooling method:
  - Design of electron cooling systems for TWAC (ITEP), ACR (RIKEN) and NIRS (Chiba), testing of its elements.
  - Test of the prototype electron gun for the electron cooling system of the MUSES accelerator complex (RIKEN).
  - Choice of an optimum mode of operation for TWAC (ITEP), COSY (FZJ), Nuclotron (JINR) in experiments with internal and external targets.
  
  
• Design of cryogenic system elements for JINR, CERN:
  - Manufacturing and testing of 26 pairs of 600 A current leads and 13 pairs of 13 kA current leads for the LHC.
  - Design of a superfluid helium safety relief valve for the LHC.
  
  
• Theoretical and experimental investigation on ion sources:
  - Calculation and design of ion source elements and transportation channels.
  - Elaboration of the solid material loader device to the ECR source by the laser.
  - Design of the ion source X-ray diagnostics.
  - Development of the program for simulation of the process in ion sources.
  
  
• Design and construction of LEPTA:
  - Test and adjustment of the magnetic system for LEPTA.
  - Optical tuning of the single pass electron beam trajectory in the ring.
  - Assembly of the LEPTA ring and the first experiments with a circulating electron beam.
  - Design and construction of the positron source for LEPTA.
  - Further development of the program for the nonlinear dynamics simulation in storage rings with strong transverse coupling.
  - Design of the electron cooling system with a circulating electron beam for the COSY storage ring (FZJ).
