Nuclear Physics with Neutrons - Fundamental
and Applied Investigations

• Preparation of experiments at IREN:
  
• Experimental testing of the effectiveness of two new hydrogen-bearing substances as proton filters-polarizers. Start of work to develop nuclear targets polarized by the dynamic pumping method for experiments of time invariance verification.
  
  
• Development of an optically polarized gaseous nuclear target with isotopes ^129,131Xe under pressure of up to 10 atm.
  
  
• Carrying out of a series of measurements of absolute alignment values of ²³⁵U nuclei, modernization of the cryostat, creation of a liquid helium ionization chamber. Analysis of the whole complex of the results obtained in the aligned target-nuclei area, planning of experiments with IREN.
  
  
• Analysis of the accumulated information about the cascades of two-step gamma-transitions in two poorly investigated types of nuclei to reveal the basic properties of nuclear matter in the vicinity of the superfluid to normal Fermi-liquid phase transition.
  
  
  Experiments at EG-5:
  
  
• Measurements of the total, partial or differential cross sections of the (n,p) or (n,) reactions on ¹⁴N or ³⁵Cl nuclei in the range of neutron energies from several keV to 7 MeV.
  
  
• Putting into operation of the correlation measuring technique based on the registration of gamma-coincidences in cascade transitions. Measurements of the energy dependence of the partial cross sections of the Cr-52 (n, ) reaction at neutron energies from 10 to 100 keV.
  
  
• Calibration of the high energy neutron detector HEND.
  
  
  Experiments at IBR-2:
  
  
• Precision measurements of the total neutron cross section on gaseous argon as a first stage of (n,e)-interaction investigations.
  
  
• Measurements of the anisotropy of neutron scattering by noble gases as a function of neutron energy, determination of the parameters of the (n,e)-interaction.
  
  
• Start measurements of the neutron spin precession in the process of polarized neutron transmission through a polarized target at the KOLKHIDA facility.
  
  
• Verification of the existence of the contribution of a negative p-resonance to the scattering of low energy neutrons on ²⁰⁴Pb as a possible reason for the PNC effect of neutron spin rotation.
  
  
• Measurements of the delay neutron yields from the thermal neutron induced fission of minor actinide nuclei with a modernized DRENIZ facility.
  
  
• Measurements of the thermal neutron cross section of the ²¹Ne(n, ) ¹⁸O reaction with the help of an ionization chamber for gaseous samples.
  
  
• PROJECT REGATA - carrying out of investigations of heavy metal pollution in a number of regions in Russia, including Moscow region, Ural region, Baikal region, Kola Peninsula region, and in some regions in Bulgaria, Poland, Moldova, Romania, China, and Egypt. Elaboration of the experimental substantiation of possible development of new biotechnologies
  
  
  Experiments at non-JINR neutron sources:
  
  
• Measurement of the ¹⁴⁹Sm (n, ) reaction cross section in the neutron energy range from several eV to ~ 500 keV at ORELA, Oak-Ridge, USA.
  
  
• Measurement of the total, partial or differential cross section of the (n,) reaction on ⁶⁴Zn in the neutron energy interval from 1 to 8 MeV at the Van-de-Graaf accelerator in the Institute of Heavy Ion Physics of Peking University.
  
  
• Investigations in UCN physics at the reactor of ILL, Grenoble, France.
  
  
• Continue experiments in the field of the optics of cold and ultracold neutrons at the reactor of ILL, Grenoble, France.
  
  
• Experiments to measure the interaction time of neutrons with quantum objects in matter at the reactor of ILL, Grenoble, France.
  
  
• Measurements of the parity nonconservation effect in the thermal neutron-induced fission of ²³⁴U nuclei at the reactor of ILL, Grenoble, France.
  
  
• Preparation and carrying out of test experiments of nn scattering at the JAGUAR reactor, Snezhinsk, Russia.
