Strangeness in Hadronic Matter and Study of Inelastic Reactions Near Kinematical Borders
(Projects NIS, THERMALIZATION)

Expected results :

• New experimental data on total and differential cross sections of and production in pp and np interactions at threshold. Study of mechanisms of the vector meson production in NN interaction at threshold. Data on the OZI-rule violation; its energy dependence and dependence on isospin of the NN system in the initial state at nucleon energies near the and production thresholds.
  
  
• Data on production cross sections for hyper-fragments of relativistic nuclei. Data on the lifetimes and binding energies of the lightest hypernuclei ⁴H ,   ³H ,   ⁶H; search for ⁶H . Study of the decay channels, including non-mesonic decays of the ¹⁰Be and ¹⁰B. hypernuclei.
  
  
• Upgrade of the vertex detector of the SVD-2 setup (additional tracking plane) and upgrade of the front-end and data acquisition system; optimizing of the multiplicity trigger. Software development for reconstruction of high multiplicity events.
  
  
• Search and study of production of exotic baryons with positive strangeness ("pentaquarks") in pp and np interactions.
  
  
• Construction of the wide acceptance magnetic spectrometer NIS-GIBS with multi-tracking capability and time-of-flight particle identification system at the Nuclotron extracted beam.
  
  
• Measurements of the partial cross sections of pp interactions at multiplicity above 20. Study of multiparticle correlations, search for "ring-like" events (gluonic Cherenkov radiation). Study of multiplicity fluctuations in relativistic Bose- and Fermi-gases with condensation. Search for signals of turbulency of excited hadronic matter. Development of analytic and Monte-Carlo models for description of high multiplicity processes where non-perturbative evolution of quark-gluon matter and phase transitions are taken into account.

• Completion of production of additional tracking detectors (MDC, vertex detector) and elements of the NIS-GIBS spectrometer. Commissioning of trigger for search for hypernucleus ⁶H in the ⁷Li beam. Monte-Carlo simulation of the reactions under study.
  
  
• Completion of the mass production of backend moduls for time-of-flight measurements and for data acquisition system.
  
  
• Study of the setup characteristics at the extracted proton beam. Spectrometer calibrating by binary reactions.
  
  
• Data taking with the NIS-GIBS spectrometer at the extracted proton and ^6,7Li beams.
  
  
• Upgrade of the SVD-2 setup:
  a) planned tests of the liquid hydrogen target and production of it's monitoring system;
  b) upgrade of the vertex tracker;
  c) upgrade of the electronics of the spectrometer and modernizing of the data acquisition system for the drift tracker;
  d) planned refurbishing of the electromagnetic calorimeter;
  e) trigger optimization;
  f) development of the software for the drift tracker.
  
  
• Data taking in the U-70 runs; measurement of the partial pN interaction cross sections with multiplicity up to 30. Monte-Carlo simulation of the spectrometer.
  
  
• Development of the analytic models for multiple particle production.
