Novel Development and Creation of Equipment for the IBR-2M Spectrometer Complex

Scientific Programme:
Calculation, research and development of moderator complex and elements of spectrometers of the IBR-2M reactor; development of advanced neutron detectors, a new generation of data acquisition systems, the computing infrastructure, cryostats and cryomagnetic systems, beam-forming and sample environment systems for condensed matter investigations in accordance with the plan for strategic development of JINR and the development programme for of the IBR-2M spectrometers complex.

Expected main results in 2012:

Commissioning of the IBR-2M moderators' complex in the direction of beams 7, 8, 10, 11 and adjustment of all operating systems of the cryogenic moderator complex.
Development of the VITESS software package and its application for simulation of spectrometers.
Modernization of the spectrometer automation systems on beam 7 (EPSILON, SKAT and NERA-PR); adjustment and test experiments.
Installation of a biological shield on beams 13-14 for placing spectrometric equipment to carry out instrument development work.
Completion of development and putting into operation of a ring-shaped multi-section detector at the DN-6 spectrometer.
Testing and adjustment of the gas-filled position-sensitive detector systems at the IBR-2M spectrometers.
Carrying out of the first stage of the DN-2 diffractometer modernization (development of a beam collimation system, adjustment and start-up with a test gas mixture of a ring-shaped helium backscattering detector and multicounter detector system; manufacturing and adjustment of electronics for data acquisition and control over actuating mechanisms).
Start-up of the control system of actuating mechanisms of the GRAINS spectrometer.
Development, enhancement and support of the Sonix+ software package at the IBR-2M spectrometers.
Development of the FLNP network infrastructure to provide the end-user with the rate of up to 1 Gb/s in the main network segments (buildings 42, 42a, 117, 119).
Adjustment and commissioning of a helium-3 purification system. Development of a pulse tube cryocooler.
