Discussing the renowned experimental physicist A. I. Alikhanov's (1904-1970) contribution to science, the paper offers an exhaustive analysis of his work at the Leningrad Physics and Technology Institute (1927-1941) as well as at the Institute for Theoretical and Experimental Physics (Moscow) - the scientific centre that was founded by A. I. Alikhanov in 1945, headed by him from 1945 to 1968, and now bears his name.
