Relativistic Nuclear Physics at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research

A. I. Malakhov, A. N. Sissakian, A. S. Sorin, S. Vokal

Several stages of development of the V. I. Veksler-A. M. Baldin Laboratory of High Energies of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research are outlined. Consideration is given to some experiments on studying the cumulative particle production and to a new line of research into hadron and nucleus-nucleus interactions in which a quark structure of nuclei can manifest itself - relativistic nuclear physics. Basic methodical and experimental results obtained at the Laboratory's synchrophasotron and Nuclotron are presented as well as the ideas suggested in collaboration with theorists of the N. N. Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics. A review is given of the research into relativistic nuclear physics to be carried out at the Nuclotron.
