B - Physics
At the LHC energies, the cross section of B - meson pair production
is about 500 b.
Therefore, even at the low luminosity, at the initial stage of the
LHC operation, about 1012 of such pairs
will be produced. CMS intends to widely exploit this unique opportunity.
The main goal is the search for the CP violation in the B-meson decays.
A detailed simulation have shown that the sensitivity of CMS with respect
to the angles
and
of the unitarity triangle will be about
(sin2
) ~ 0.06. Another important goal is the
study of Bs0 oscillations.
It has been demonstrated that
CMS is adequate to study nearly the whole range predicted for the
oscillation parameter xs. This is the case due to
very precise location of the decay vertex, which will be provided
by the CMS tracking system. Also,
LHC opens unique opportunity for the studies of the B - meson rare decays.
One of the most interesting examples is the decay
Bs0 ->
mu mu,
whose width is quite sensitive to the presence of new physics
beyond SM. in this channel the non standard physics which enhanced
branching ratio by factor of 3-5 can be detected at CMS in one year
of operation at low luminosity.
