For the first time iron nuclei are accelerated at the Nuclotron during its regular run on 10 June. On 11 June, the accelerated beam of iron nuclei with 1 GeV/n energy and intensity of a million of nuclei per second was successfully extracted from the Nuclotron and prepared for physics and applied research experiments.
New opportunities to study various radiation effects in preparation of long-term space voyages with astronauts are opened with the production of iron nuclei beams at the Nuclotron, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. It is one more challenging breakthrough in the wide application of the Nuclotron for the studies conducted by scientists from JINR member states.
