Bulgaria is located in the Southeast Europe on Balkan Peninsula, it borders on Romania in the north, on Yugoslavia and Macedonia in the west, on Greece and Turkey in the south. It is separated from Russia and Ukraine by Black Sea in the east. The relief of Bulgaria is remarkable for big variety. There are vast plains, hilly areas and valleys, mountain chains and massifs here. The best known of them are Balkan Mountains (Stara Planina), Rhodope, Rila and Pirin. The mountains with rocky tops and mountainsides covered with forest occupy almost third of the territory. The meadows are covered with flowers in summer and with sparkling snow in winter.

Bulgaria has the continental climate. As a whole it is cooler, than in other places of Europe at the same geographical latitude. For example, there are no subtropics in Bulgaria in contrast to the Black Sea coast of Krasnodar Territory. In Sofia the average temperature in January is 4° C - 2° C, in July is 16° C - 27° C. In Varna the average temperature in January is 1° C- 6° C and in July is 19° C - 30° C.
