The next International Symposium on Exotic Nuclei (EXON-2006) is scheduled from 17 July to 22 July 2006 in Khanty-Mansiysk (Russia, west Siberia). The organizers of the Symposium are JINR (Dubna), RIKEN (Wako), GSI (Darmstadt), GANIL (Caen) – the scientific centers, where exotic nuclei have been and are intensively studied.
Khanty-Mansiysk is a town situated 2040 km from Moscow. This very beautiful and exotic place is in the north of Russia. The basic part of the Khanty-Mansiysk District is occupied by the taiga. Among swamps and forests there are more than 25 lakes. The two greatest rivers of Russia – the Ob and Irtysh Rivers flow through the territory of the District.
Today the town of Khanty-Mansiysk has the features of a capital – it is a center of active business life. The Khanty-Mansiysk district is the main oil and gas-bearing area in Russia and one of the largest oil-extracting world regions.
In spite of future changes in the legislation, the Khanty-Mansiysk District is keeping favorable investment climate. The area is saturated with all proper amenities – hotels, sports objects, etc. A beautiful District Rehabilitation Medical Center has been opened. A Center of Arts for Gifted Children of the North, a Skiing Center, where the World Biathlon Junior Championship was held in 2001 and 2003, a Center of Applied Art & Crafts of the Northern People, State District Museum of Nature & Man, and a unique Park-Museum under Open Sky have been created and are successfully functioning.
Domestic and foreign companies and firms have opened their representative agencies at the international airport in Khanty-Mansiysk. The town has up-to-date communication facilities to connect with foreign and CIS countries.
In the town of Khanty-Mansiysk many educational institutions are functioning: the National Medical School - the oldest in the District, Medical college, Pedagogical college, Economic college, and college of Arts, commercial educational institution "Professional and Technical School", secondary professional school. The system of branches of higher educational institutions was developed and expanded.
In 2001, a new educational establishment of higher education – the Yugorsky State University of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation was created.
The town of Khanty-Mansiysk has its own unique features: it has its specific architecture, it is surrounded by forests, and the meandering Irtysh River adds to its beauty. Although a small town, it has a great history and great perspectives.
The Symposium will be devoted to the investigation of nuclei in extreme states and, in particular, at the limits of nuclear stability (from very light neutron- and proton-rich up to superheavy nuclei).
The Topics to be discussed are:
Light exotic nuclei: production and properties
Superheavy elements. Synthesis and
Rare processes and decays
Radioactive beams. Production and
Experimental set-ups and future
Life science research with heavy ion beams.
The program will include oral and poster presentations
of contributed papers. It is expected that during the Symposium there will be enough time
for informal meetings at which one can discuss future prospects the efforts of
different scientific centers for performing joint investigations.
The abstracts, not exceeding 1 page and in camera-ready form (17 cm x 25.5 cm) must be typewritten using MS WORD or
LaTex and submitted by e-mail before 20 March, 2006.
The Symposium Proceedings will be published shortly after the Symposium. The volume will only the papers presented at the Symposium. Detailed information on the
preparation of the manuscripts will be provided in the next Circular.
The registration fee (including full board in Khanty-Mansiysk, book of proceedings,
coffee breaks, welcome reception, banquet, social program and transportation
from the airport to the hotel in Khanty-Mansiysk and back) is 500 Euro for the
participants and 250 Euro for accompanying persons. The conference fee does not include the accommodation. The fee should be paid in cash at
the registration desk upon arrival.
Partial financial support will be available for young physicists. The candidates for
financial support will be selected by the Organizing Committee from participants less than 35 years of age on the basis of a competition of their abstracts.
