Nucleus and Particle Interactions at Intermediate Energies

Scientific Programme:

Investigation of processes of strong, weak and electromagnetic interactions of elementary particles and light nuclei at intermediate energies with the aim of determination of symmetries and dynamics of the interactions. Development and construction of set-ups for experiments at accelerators (JINR phasotron, PSI meson factory, COSY proton synchrotron) for obtaining new information and testing the present theoretical views in the topics. Development of projects for new experiments and experimental methods for intermediate-energy physics.

Expected main results in 2001:

Manufacturing of proportional chamber No 2 for PIBETA. Data-taking and data analysis.
Measurement of the energy dependence of the reaction pd ppn with forward emission of a proton pair with small relative energy.
Data-taking with DUBTO at the JINR Phasotron. Analysis of the 1999-2000 data.
Measurement of the dt-molecule formation rate as a function of the temperature and concentration of hydrogen in the H/D/T mixture at a pressure of 1500 atm and a temperature of 800 K. Design and construction of the solid-deuterium target for investigations with pure ortho-deuterium. Measurement of the dd-molecule formation rate as a function of the temperature and spin in ortho-deuterium. Design and construction of a high-pressure tritium target.
Measurement of energy dependence of the process pp2.
Investigation of diffusion of the anomalous muonium in Si. Measurement of muon magnetic moment in the bound state.
Installation of the FAMILON apparatus in the surface muon beam line of the phasotron. Beam tests and measurement of energy resolution.
Development of methods for manufacturing hydrophobic aerogel samples with n=1.008 1.020; manufacturing of the samples for investigations with CERN beams.
