Development and Maintenance of the JINR Networking, Information and Computing Infrastructure

Scientific Programme:

• Provision of uninterrupted operation of the JINR BackBone. Joint monitoring and management of operating the JINR ATM and ETHERNET sub-networks on the basis of the ATM SYSTEM Manager and the HP Open View.
• Development of the JINR external telecommunications in the framework of the national network of computer telecommunications for science and higher school.
• Development of a monitoring complex for the external communications and the traffic of the JINR local area network. Development of a segment of the security system for the JINR computer network to increase reliability of information storage and protection from unauthorized access.
• Provision of operation of the JINR High-Performance Computer Centre (HPCC). Creation of a system for monitoring the HPCC operation. Development of technology for the creation of multiprocessor applications. Promotion of multiprocessor computing systems on the basis of the SIMD-architecture. Extension of the application field of the computer APE-100 at JINR and participation together with DESY and INFN in the project APE-mille and APE-next.
• Transition to a new extended system of reserve file duplication on the basis of the package HP Open View Omnibackup. Development of technologies of a collective (JINR-SRINP MSU-ITEP) use of the robotized ATL library in the LINUX- environment.
• Continuation of the work in frames of participation in the creation in Russia of a prototype distributed regional centre of information processing for experiments ALICE, ATLAS and CMS at LHC: maintenance of the LIT PC-farm of the unified LINUX Red Hat 6.x environment and the current versions of LHC ++, Objectivity/DB, ROOT, ORCA. Participation in the sessions on the mass generation of events for experiment CMS at CERN in cooperation with Russian and foreign physics centres using the LIT PC-farm and the robotized mass memory system. Adaptation and maintenance of new versions of the program systems LHC ++, ROOT, GEANT4 for the platforms SUN SOLARIS and Windows/NT.
• Maintenance and development of the JINR main servers. Centralized support of the operating systems and the software packages used at JINR. Realization of a uniform technical policy in the area of licensing the software products. Maintenance and addition of the bank of the licensed and freely distributed products for workstations and personal computers with various operating systems accessible to the users of the JINR local area network.
• Setting up the JINRLIB library and the programs created by the JINR employees on the platforms UNIX and Windows. Maintenance and addition of the JINRLIB. Promotion of new versions of the general purpose program libraries (NAG, CPC, CERNLIB) and the systems for analytical calculations (Reduce, MAPLE, Mathematica).
• Provision of access to the international databases and information systems through the Internet. Development and support of the main JINR and LIT WWW/FTP servers. Centralized support of the databases of a scientific and administrative direction, including those working under the relational and object-oriented DBMS. Maintenance of the information computer systems for the JINR administration activity in the framework of the created 3-tier structure of data accumulation and data processing (in cooperation with the JINR STD AMS).
  Participation in the international projects on filling bibliographic and factographic databases (PPDS, COMPASS). Creation of program-technical tools for a prompt imaging of data of the international base INIS (in a mirror mode) for the community of physics institutes of Russia and JINR Member States. Development and maintenance of the basis information centre created at JINR within the BAPHYS project for the organizations working in the field of applied nuclear physics and research in fundamental properties of matter.
  Development and support of the archive of the documentation and software required for application of modern middleware technologies in the informational-computational interoperated distributed computer systems as well as for the data representation in the framework of the main information WWW systems of the Internet.
• Creation of a system for distributed, local, Russian and international teleconferencing with a portal at JINR.
• Maintenance of the hard- and software complex of the JINR UC on the basis of the Windows NT server.
  Information support of the educational process at the International university "Dubna" and joint development of the training courses on computing and modern information technologies.
