Investigation of Secondary Particle Production and Neutron Yield from Heavy Targets in Nucleus-Nucleus Interactions. Studies of the Transmutation of Radioactive Wastes from Nuclear Power Installations

Scientific Programme:

Investigation of the characteristis of secondary particles produced in nucleus-nucleus interactions in the 1-6 GeV/nucleon region. Comparison of them with the data obtained in hadron-nucleus collisions (PSP).
Study of neutron yield dependence on beam energy and type of targets (NY).
Study of neutron spectra around heavy targets irradiated with relativistic nuclei (NS). Estimation of transmutation cross-sections of long-lived radioactive isotopes (TRS). Gamma-spectrometry measurements (GSM).

Expected main results in 2002:

Measurement of the secondary particle yield at p and ¹²C beams (Nuclotron beams).
Measurement of the transmutation cross-sections of ²³⁷Np, ¹²⁹I, ²⁴¹Am and ²³⁹Pu.
Analysis of the experimental data for the neutron yield and measurement of the transmutation cross-sections.
