Information, Computer and Network Support of JINR's Activity

• Development of the external JINR telecommunications: a) development of the high-speed channel JINR-Moscow, b) involvement in the creation of dedicated data links with leading scientific centers of Europe and USA, work to increase the capacity of the international channel for JINR, c) involvement in the development of the international computer communication channels (GEANT, GLORIAD) for JINR's activities, d) study of the questions of integration with the educational network of Dubna, e) the project of devepment of a corporate network for JINR and JINR Member State Institutes.
  
  
• Provision of operational stability of the JINR Backbone. Study of solutions for minimization of a restoring time of the backbone at malfunctions of some nodes.
  Test of the performance of the JINR backbone constructed on the basis of the Gigabit Ethernet technology.
  Rise of the security level of the JINR LAN. Test operation of the protection system of the JINR network using the firewalls CISCO PIX-525.
  Creation of WWW servers cluster and a cluster of proxy servers with the purpose of protection of the network from unauthorized access.
  Testing of the monitoring system and the network management system on the basis of free and commercial software in order to choose an optimal by criterion price/ quality software package for monitoring and controlling the JINR network.
  
  
• Development of the JINR Central Computing and Informational Complex (CCIC): improving the monitoring system, development of the distributed file system AFS and information storage systems, development of technologies to create the multiprocessor applications, participation together with DESY and INFN in the APE-next project, maintenance of the backup file system on the basis of the HP Open View Omnibackup and AMANDA packages, application of technologies of collective (JINR-SRINP, MSU-ITEP) use of the robotized ATL library in the LINUX environment, maintenance of the CASTOR system.
  
  
• Support of actual versions of the specialized software (ROOT, GEANT, ORCA, etc.) for large experiments conducted on accelerators with participation of JINR physicists. Standardization of the program environment and centralized support of the operating systems and software packages applied at JINR. Development, adapting and maintenance of general-purpose program libraries and analytical calculation systems on different platforms. Development and maintenance of basic WWW/FTP servers of JINR and LIT. Support of scientific and administrative databases. Creation and maintenance of computer systems for administrative and financial activity of JINR (in cooperation with JINR STA MIS) and CERN. The filling of bibliographic and factographic databases with information from JINR in the framework of international projects. Development and maintenance of the archive of documentation and software on advanced technologies for creation and use of informational and computing resources in the framework of the Internet.
  
  
• Carrying out work on creation of a JINR GRID-segment in the framework of the Russian GRID structure (RDIG): a) creation of a segment of the LCG infrastructure at JINR, b) carrying out work on creation of the WEB-portal of the LCG project in Russia, c) participation in creation of the infrastructure of the European project EGEE at JINR (distributed infrastructure CIC center (Core Infrastructure Center) services, the regional operation center (ROC) and the resource center (RC) at JINR), d) participation in the sessions of mass event generation for LHC experiments.
  
  
• Maintenance of the hard- and software complex of JINR UC on the basis of Windows NT server. Support of the educational process at JINR UC, the International University of Nature, Society and Man "Dubna", MIREA; development of training courses on advanced information technologies.
