Upgrade of the IBR-2 Complex

Scientific Programme:
Modernization of the IBR-2 reactor to enhance efficiency of experimental investigations in the fields of nuclear physics and condensed matter, and to improve basic characteristics, service reliability and safety of the reactor.

Expected main results in 2009:

Completion of installation of the basic reactor equipment: reactor vessel; actuating mechanisms; water moderators; movable reflector; automated system for control and protection.
Filling of cooling circuits with liquid sodium.
Creation of the additional storage for used fuel (manufacturing of a reactor vessel and water moderators).
Manufacturing of a cryogenic moderator for beams 7-11.
