Medical and Biological Research with JINR Hadron Beams

Scientific Programme:
Medico-biological and clinical research for the treatment of cancer patients with beams of heavy nuclear particles of the JINR Phasotron and for the accompanying diagnostics.

Expected main results in 2011:

Continuation of clinical researches on proton therapy of cancer patients in room No 1.
Development of the technique for boluses manufacturing based on the machinable wax and the digital drilling machine.
Development of hardware and software for verification of patient set-up based on an X-ray digital detector.
Development of the equipment for dynamic conformal irradiation of deep seated tumours with the proton beam.
Development and improvement of detectors and tools for clinical dosimetry of the medical hadron beams.
Explore the possibilities of laser radioprotection from skin damage after exposure to ionizing radiation in experimental mice like C57VL/6.
Investigations of the molecular spectra of gene mutations induced by radiation in animal and human cells induced by ionising radiation of different quality.
