JINR-Serbia: mutual interest in joint projects

On 27 March, State Secretary of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation of Serbia Miroslav Trajanovic met with JINR Directorate at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.

The parties discussed the prospects of JINR-Serbia cooperation and outlined the next steps for the implementation of joint initiatives and projects. The representatives of the Serbian delegation took part in the session of the JINR Committee of Plenipotentiaries and visited the JINR laboratories where they learnt about the current scientific infrastructure.

The delegation of the Republic of Serbia was represented by State Secretary of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation of Serbia Miroslav Trajanovic, Senior Advisor to the Ministry Svetlana Bogdanovic and Deputy Director of the Vinca Institute of Nuclear Sciences Marija Jankovic. On behalf of JINR, the meeting was attended by JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov, Vice-Director Latchesar Kostov, JINR Chief Engineer Boris Gikal, UC JINR Director Dmitriy Kamanin and Head of International Cooperation Department Otilia-Ana Culicov.

Opening the meeting at Directorate, Grigory Trubnikov highlighted the significant support for the activities of the Joint Institute provided by the Ministry of Science of Serbia over the past years. He thanked the guests for their visit to Dubna and for participation in the work of the JINR Committee of Plenipotentiaries.

"It is a great honor for us to visit the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. This visit gave us a unique opportunity not only to learn about the current scientific infrastructure of JINR but also to see first-hand how the world science develops," State Secretary of the Ministry of Science of Serbia Miroslav Trajanovic emphasized. "During my visit to Dubna, I was convinced that here, in JINR, there is an incredible focusing of the smartest people. This is something to be really proud of."

He highlighted the significance of attracting young scientists to the great scientific work and expressed the hope that Serbian young specialists would actively get engaged in joint projects with the Joint Institute.

Grigory Trubnikov told the participants about the visit of Director of the Vinca Institute of Nuclear Sciences Slavko Dimovic to JINR in February, 2025. According to him, the parties expressed general satisfaction with the results of the discussion of promising ideas for future joint projects.

State Secretary of the Ministry of Science introduced Deputy Director of the Vinca Institute Marija Jankovic as the new coordinator of Serbia-JINR cooperation. She informed that the visit of Slavko Dimovic to JINR resulted in the early establishment of a special committee for the development of accelerator projects at the Vinca Institute that will cooperate with the expert group of the Joint Institute.

UC JINR Director Dmitry Kamanin emphasized that Serbia is one of the most active participants in the educational projects of the Centre, such as the START, INTEREST and international scientific practices. He highlighted the importance of familiarizing Serbian universities and scientific organizations with JINR activities.

Marija Jankovic made a proposal to organize the next, 10th meeting of the JINR-Serbia Coordination Committee in 2025. At the Committee, a plan of further activities will be agreed and a new roadmap for cooperation will be signed.

At the end of the meeting, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in expanding partnership relations and developing a fruitful dialog in the field of science and technology. Grigory Trubnikov informed the delegation that an official visit of JINR representatives to Serbia will take place in the coming months to prepare a future joint scientific programme.
