Visit of RAS President to JINROn 22 November, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Krasnikov visited the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. The RAS delegation also included RAS Vice Presidents Vladislav Panchenko and Stepan Kalmykov. During the working visit, the representatives of RAS Directorate discussed the issues of cooperation between RAS and JINR with JINR Directorate and visited two major scientific infrastructure facilities: the NICA accelerator complex, including the synchrophasotron hall and the MPD detector pavilion at VBLHEP, as well as the Superheavy Element Factory at FLNR. They also learnt about the plans for major physical experiments at these facilities.
At the meeting of RAS and JINR Directorates, JINR Director RAS Academician Grigory Trubnikov told Gennady Krasnikov about the progress of JINR's mega-science projects - the NICA accelerator complex and the Baikal-GVD Neutrino Telescope. In particular, a high-grade physical session at NICA is scheduled for the second half of the next year and a session on extracted beams will start even earlier within the framework of the ARIADNA collaboration on applied research. "This is an infrastructure that should work around the clock. I urge you to load us with more Academy tasks," Grigory Trubnikov highlighted. JINR Director emphasized that the country of location is the key Member State of the Institute that in turn, has a broad network of relations with scientific organizations that are part of the RAS. During the visit, the possibility of developing a federal programme in the future for the investigation of the fundamental properties of matter and the organization of a large IT infrastructure uniting various scientific centres, as well as issues of supporting and retaining scientific personnel were discussed. Gennady Krasnikov stated that the Russian Academy of Sciences has always been a support for the state and today, works to achieve national goals. The President of the Russian Academy of Sciences informed that today, the project of a large scientific programme on space research, in which many academic institutes will participate, is at a high level of readiness. JINR Scientific Leader Academician-Secretary of the Division of Physical Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences Victor Matveev recalled that the highest value of JINR is international cooperation and highlighted that it is inadmissible to turn to a policy of isolation even in difficult political conditions. "In fact, we cooperate with the world scientific community of physicists. Today, not only in the Member States, but also beyond their borders, focus on our activities increases," Victor Matveev said.
