Experiments "Leading Particles"
(Scintillation Magnetic Spectrometer MSU) and SPIN

Leaders:   L.I. Sarycheva
A.I. Malakhov
M. Finger

Scientific Programme:
Investigation of leading particles from proton-nucleus interactions at the experimental setup SMS MSU ("Scintillation magnetic spectrometer of Moscow State University") is used to highlight the mechanism of strong interactions, and the spin role in it. In the framework of the programme of the investigation of interactions of polarized protons with nuclei, it is proposed to perform an experimental investigation of single-spin asymmetries of polarized proton scattering on intranuclear nucleons to be compared with analogous characteristics for scattering on free nucleons in the energy range 1-4 GeV. In particular, the analyzing power is measured for p + A pL + p(n)R + X and d + A pL + p(n)R + X reactions. It permits one to study the spin nuclear structure, anomalous spin phenomena in strong interactions, and is important for the development of nuclear polarimetry.
Further research with the setup SMS MSU (for Nuclotron beams only) will be focused on the problem of difference in the production mechanism for leading -mesons and protons.
Study of spin effects in elastic and inelastic np scattering and in the decay of atomic nuclei (SPIN).
