Visit of Egyptian scientists to JINR

In the frame of ASRT-JINR project entitled "Molecular Modeling and Experimental Neutron Scattering Studies of Interactions of the Condensed Matter" a research team from Egypt has been visiting Prof. Sci.Dr.Kholmirzo T.Kholmurodov, Leading Scientist at Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics FLNP. The visit is carried out during the period of 07 July to 21 July 2022.

The project PI from the Egyptian side is Prof Hanan Elhaes, Prof Elhaes is Prof of Physics and Ex-head of Physics Department at the Faculty of Women for Arts Science and Education at Ain Shams University ASU, Egypt.

The Co-PI is Prof. Medhat Ibrahim, Prof of Applied Spectroscopy and Molecular modeling at Spectroscopy Department, National Research Centre NRC, Egypt. He was the ex- Dean of Physics Research Institute at NRC. He is also member of the National Network of Nuclear Research at the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology ASRT, Egypt.

The Egyptian team conducted the possible interaction between Graphene quantum dots GQDs and Graphene oxide as a substrate and Cholesterol as a biological molecule using Quantum mechanical calculations. The work is also extended to study several biological molecules with other nano structure substrates. The outcomes of such molecular modeling work are supposed to be published in one of the highly ranked scientific journals.

During the visit possible simulation will be conducted with molecular dynamics on the same model molecules to fulfill the obtained results. While future aspects of this work include possible verification of the model using the up to date facilities at FLNP.

Understanding the mechanism of interaction is an important step towered design and implementation of advanced bio sensors. The simulation work is leading the way to have cost effective eco-friendly bio-sensor. Other members of the team from Egypt are

Prof. Osama Osman, NRC; Prof. Abdel Aziz Mahmoud, NRC; Dr. Hend Ezzat, NRIAG; Ms. Rania Badry, ASU; Ms. Asmaa Ibrahim, ASU.

It is worth to mention that the current project is the second research projects between the two teams, resulted in 7 international scientific papers with participation of Prof. Kholmirzo Kholmurodov yearly in the international conference of molecular modeling and spectroscopy held in Cairo.

It is also planned that he will participate in the conference this year in December 2022.

Possible future collaboration includes his participation in Spectroscopy Winter School during February 2023 in Cairo.
