JEMS-21 started in JINR

On 7 November, a regular international training programme "JINR Expertise for Member States and Partner Countries" JEMS-21 started. This time participants of the programme are representatives of Russian educational institutions and scientific organizations. The geography of participants is very extensive. Representatives from Arkhangelsk, Moscow, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Rostov-on-Don, Tomsk, Tula, Vladivostok, Voronezh, and Yakutsk arrived in Dubna. In addition to the programme of the weeklong internship, the second workshop of directors of operating and future Infocentres is planned to be held.

Russian universities and scientific organizations traditionally show great interest in the JEMS format. The current training programme is not an exception. The biggest delegation has come from Vladivostok due to active work of the Information Centre opened on the basis of the Far Eastern Federal University and also due to realisation of quadripartite agreement between JINR, FEFU, FEB RAS, and the Primorsky Krai Government. Alexandra Lebedeva, Deputy Chair of the Government of the Kamchatka Region, joined the JEMS-21 programme. The cooperation with the region was activated during the visit of the JINR delegation to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in spring 2022.

Head of the International Cooperation Department Dmitry Kamanin opened the programme of JEMS with an introductory lecture about JINR for participants in the JINR Visit Centre. The first day of JEMS is traditionally dedicated to the large-scale projects of JINR in FLNR and VBLHEP. Participants visited the Superheavy Element Factory, the NICA Accelerator Complex, and the factory of superconducting magnets. Moreover, on the first day of the training programme, participants had a working lunch where representatives of the JINR Directorate welcomed them.

The JEMS programme is traditionally divided into thematic sections one for each day of the internship: Heavy Ion Physics and Accelerator Technologies; Research with Neutrons and the Nanoworld; Theory, Information, Education; Life Sciences on Earth and in Space; Neutrino. Participants will visit the Laboratories and facilities of the Institute, listen to lectures on the areas of scientific studies from leading specialists of JINR. The JEMS programme also includes an introduction to international cooperation of the Institute and the organization of social infrastructure.

On Wednesday, a round table is planned to be held to discuss interaction between JINR and universities, operation of the JINR Information Centres, and educational programmes of the University Centre due to the great interest in the JINR educational programmes. This time the participants will also have the opportunity to get acquainted with the engineering practice course of the UC JINR.

The peculiarity of the JEMS-21 training programme will be the second workshop of the Directors of operating and future JINR Infocentres called "Organizational issues and tasks of IC: experience exchange". Directors and representatives of IC located in Russia and the Member States, namely Bulgaria, Armenia, and Egypt, will take part in the event organized in a hybrid format.

The internship will end on Friday, 11 November, with a traditional round table with the participation of representatives of the JINR Directorate, at which the results of JEMS-21 will be summed up. The participants of the training programme will visit the Laboratories to discuss scientific projects of their interest.
