The acting governing body of JINR is Directorate of the Institute that is elected by the Committee of Plenipotentiary Representatives of the Governments of the JINR Member States. In March of this year, due to the expiration of the term of office of the Vice-Directors of the Institute Professors I.Zlatev and M.Sovinsky, the CPR elected Professor E.Entralgo and Professor A.Sandulescu as Vice-Directors of the Institute.

Ten days ahead of schedule, the Annual report on the activities of JINR went out of print in the Publishing Department. The collection of materials, made at a high printing level, will be a good illustration of the materials that are currently discussed these days at the session of the JINR Scientific Council. A booklet has also been prepared in the JINR Publishing Department for the participants of the International School of Young Physicists JINR - CERN that will be held on 5 - 18 June in Tabor (Czechoslovakia).

To discuss the first results of express analysis of 300 samples of the new grain variety "Triticale" and to discuss the prospects for joint work, the well-known Soviet scientist-breeder Academician of the All-Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences N.V.Turbin visited the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions. He highly appreciated the activities of the FLNR Laboratory of Elemental Analysis in which, in particular, samples of a new variety of cereals were measured for nitrogen content.

About 50 specialists from 6 socialist countries and JINR took part in the work of the XV International Symposium on the Physics for Radiation Protection, organized by the Dresden University of Technology. 38 reports on the state of the art and prospects for the development of Physics for Radiation Protection, problems of radiation protection at accelerators and nuclear power plants, solid-state and luminescent dosimetry were heard and discussed at the symposium.

A farewell school bell will sound today for 477 tenth-graders of Dubna schools, school classes will end for 608 eighth-graders as well that will come to their first exam in a week.

For the third time, the JINR Scientists' Club hosted guests from the Moscow Art Theater. JINR staff members met with People's Artist of the USSR A.Zueva, People's Artist of the RSFSR M.Yurieva and other actors.

The Bulgarian people call 24 May a bright holiday - the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture, Bulgarian Enlightenment and Culture. On this day, again and again, the names of the great educators Cyril and Methodius are pronounced with gratitude, on this day, Knowledge and Creativity are glorified.

It was unusually noisy and lively last Saturday in the hall of JINR Scientists' Club: the Bulgarian staff of the Institute came here with their children. Schoolchildren were especially looking forward to the solemn meeting - on the eve of the Day of Cyril and Methodius, the school year ended at a school where Bulgarian children study their native language and literature, geography and history of their country. All these subjects are taught by the teacher Svetlana Kabadozova. It was she that was the first to be given the floor at the meeting by Head of the group of Bulgarian staff at JINR Tsvetan Vylov that sincerely thanked her on behalf of all the parents. The main event was the honoring of the pupils - most of them were awarded with commendable letters for their academic success and the most expensive gifts, books were prepared for children.
