Today, we are opening a new section "Personal dimension" to publish articles written by JINR employees about themselves and their work. And we encourage readers to take part in this endeavor.

Why is it necessary?

Of course, to learn about "what colleagues in neighboring departments are engaged in." And this common phrase hides many senses. First of all, we are talking about the specific activities of the employee and the information is presented first-hand, bypassing generalizations like "the department has begun processing experimental data." The work of a scientist is complex and little understood outside of scientific centres. These are not only ambitious goals, discoveries and awards. This is a daily routine, a lot of related and preparatory tasks, the "invisible" work of theorists that precedes the start of each experiment. In the articles of the new section, the role of everyone in the big process will be visible and we will see once again how diverse the scientific activities of our Institute are. In addition, we hope to talk about research and technologies that remain outside the attention of the press and such information will be of interest outside of JINR.

But will anyone dare to do it?

It will be decided. We've already decided it. And these are, first of all, people that are happy with their participation, that like the team and the work they are engaged in. Employees, that are caring, appreciating both their efforts and the desire of the Institute's leaders to preserve our common home on the Volga at all costs. Those for whom the United Institute has become destiny and is a significant part of their lives.

Is the section only for young scientists?

No, for all of us that make up the team of five thousand. It is from these mini-stories that the mosaic of the daily work of departments, divisions and services will be developed. Perhaps, many questions will disappear, an explanation will be found for certain phenomena. And one more thing - it's interesting to know how people come to work at the Institute, how they learn about its activities, how they adapt and why they decide to enter into or renew a contract. Indeed, even in this "prelude" the systematic work of our information services, the University Centre, student schools and basic departments of the Dubna University is often revealed.
