First director of the first laboratory

On 12 April, a solemn evening was dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the birth of the first director of the first laboratory of the Institute, the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems Venedikt Petrovich DZHELEPOV at the JINR Scientists' Club.

The evening was opened by Director of the Institute Grigory Trubnikov. He noted that Dubna was lucky to have great scientists, founding fathers of the Institute and laboratories, in the galaxy of which Venedikt Petrovich took his rightful place.

JINR Scientific Leader Academician Victor Matveev highlighted such outstanding qualities of the scientist and leader Dzhelepov that allowed him to have a significant influence on the development of not only his own laboratory, but also on the scientific "satellites" of Dubna Protvino and Troitsk.

Scientific Leader of the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions Yuri Oganessian portrayed a humanely warm portrait of the hero of the day in his speech. And just as kind feelings for their senior colleague and leader were very soulfully conveyed by Nikolay Rusakovich, Alexander Olshevsky, Vadim Bednyakov, Vladimir Komarov, Gennady Mitsyn, Yury Usov.

The programme of the evening included a video film prepared by the Scientific Communications Group of the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems. The book-album about Venedikt Petrovich was presented by its author and compiler Mikhail Lukichev.
