At seminar on synthesis of element 120

Scientific Leader of the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions JINR RAS Academician Yuri Oganessian made a report "On the way to the synthesis of element 120" on 24 March at the joint laboratory seminar.

The speaker presented a short analysis of SHE synthesis in cold and hot fusion reactions and then considered the ways of synthesis of element 120 using 54Cr ion beam at the Superheavy Element Factory. Some experiments have been proposed to broaden the horizons on heaviest element synthesis and their decay properties.

The seminar was attended not only by FLNR JINR employees. Representatives of other laboratories and the Institute's Directorate also joined the event.

As part of the programme, JINR representatives visited the centre of collective use of scientific equipment "Arctic", the Innovation Center "Arctic Oil and Gas Laboratory Research", the centre of additional children's education "House of Scientific Collaboration", the ITC "Modern Technologies for Processing of Bioresources of the North", the Centre of Cognitive Technologies, and the Laboratory of Molecular Phylogenetics and Ecology. Moreover, participants of the event opened the laboratory of microclonal plant propagation and the laboratory of diagnostics of carbon materials and spin-optical phenomena in wide-band semiconductors.
