A matter of life

A photo exhibition "Big Science", dedicated to the JINR Foundation Day, has opened in the JINR Cultural Centre "Mir". The photos shot by the famous industrialist photographer Mark Kozhura at the basic facilities and in the offices of the scientists of the Institute are presented at the exhibition.

At the opening, JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov noted that the exhibition could be considered a beautiful, modern experiment. The public in Dubna is quite demanding, everyone remembers Yury Tumanov that photographed science for decades. But Yury Aleksandrovich did not like color photography. In this sense, Mark Kozhura's work complements the idea of scientific research, attracts young people that are surrounded by vivid images and gadgets. But most importantly, the images feature employees. "Science is made by people," Grigory Trubnikov said. "Large facilities without people cannot function properly. They are cold, soulless, silent giants."

The photos are in the style of Industrial - with bright colors and unusual angles. About his work, Mark said: "It's very important to me when people that work at the Institute say thank you and appreciate the way I've shown them in the photos. I'll explain why. Sometimes a person devotes his whole life to his favorite work, comes home in the evening, tries to impart to his loved ones, his wife, children, tell them how great his work is, what he does, what he is engaged in... And it is very important for me that a father can take home one of these photos and proudly say - this is me, this is my life's work."

The exhibition will be open until 9 April. Everyone can visit it from Tuesday to Sunday from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Free admission.
