Briefly Lecture series by Academician Yuri OganessianBy the beginning of the new academic year, five popular science video lectures by FLNR Scientific Leader Yu.Ts.Oganessian are presented on the JINR educational portal edu.jinr.ru.The origin of nuclei and atoms in the Universe, various approaches to the artificial synthesis of elements heavier than uranium, the occurrence of an "island of stability," as well as the prospects for producing new nuclei at the accelerator complex, the Superheavy Element Factory are presented in these lectures. The lectures are intended for a wide audience, including scientists, engineers, graduate students, students and are available in Russian and in English. The introductory part is dedicated to the origin of nuclei and atoms in the Universe, their properties and types of decay, as well as the classical theory of the nucleus. The experimental testing of the hypothesis of the occurrence of superheavy elements is described in the second lecture and in the third one - organization of experiments on their synthesis. The results of the experiments and other possibilities are discussed in the fourth and fifth lectures, respectively.
