JINR at the women's forum

On 10 October, the forum "The role of women in science" was held in Dubna, in which scientists, entrepreneurs, students, industrialists, journalists, politicians, representatives of science and technology took part, according to the JINR website.

A senior researcher in the Nuclear Theory Department of the Laboratory of Theoretical Physics Alexandra Friesen was among the speakers that reported on the NICA project, baryonic matter and heavy ion collisions, as well as on her work and the role of women in science. In particular, she noted that the more knowledge-intensive the field of activity is, the fewer women work in it. As an example, Alexandra cited data on JINR scientific laboratories: in some of them, more than 40% are women, but in most, 20-25%.

"Is it easy to be a theoretical physicist? It's difficult, but I find it incredibly interesting. As well as for those who choose this field of science. I would like to note that today, the number of women in science increases. Maybe this area has become popular, maybe education has improved, or maybe it's due to some kind of social changes. In any case, women are needed in science. They work on important projects. History shows that some of them have changed the world," A.Friesen emphasized.
