Plans to expand cooperation

On 16 - 19 October, a meeting "India - JINR: at the forefront of fundamental and applied research" is being held at the JINR Conference Centre.

A delegation of scientists from leading universities and research centres in India participates in person. Experts from Indian research centres also join discussions online.

"I am very pleased to see so many Indian physicists taking part in this meeting, both in person and via video link," Indian Ambassador to the Russian Federation Pavan Kapoor said at the opening. "It demonstrates how important it is for scientists to cooperate and collaborate. India has its own strong scientific schools and at the same time, it is very important for our scientific community to exchange experiences. You have an amazing scientific infrastructure, it's great that Indian scientists have the opportunity to come here and to see everything with their own eyes."

Director of the Institute Grigory Trubnikov outlined the areas for the development of partnership relations between JINR and India. First of all, he believes, the parties should be more widely involved in each other's scientific projects. "We have been cooperating with India for a long time but as a rule, at the sites and facilities of other scientific centres," Grigory Trubnikov explained. "Today, we are aimed at organizing joint projects in Dubna and in India..."

Director of the Institute also proposed to discuss holding a joint Dubna-India school on theoretical physics and mathematical methods, emphasizing that theoretical physics and fundamental mathematics are traditionally strong both in India and at JINR.

The idea of intensive scientific exchange was supported by the Institute staff that had come to JINR from India. "We are very pleased that we were able to organize this event. The exchange of scientific personnel between India and JINR has been carried out for many years and the seminar has become an important platform for Indian scientists that came to JINR for the first time. It seems to me that the main goal of this scientific meeting is to expand academic exchange for the most effective cooperation. As scientists, we hope for further development of our work with youth that has come to Dubna for the first time. I would like the younger generation to participate more extensively in JINR projects," BLTP senior researcher Trambak Bhattacharya said.

About 200 scientists took part in the meeting and about 90 reports were presented in the field of particle physics and nuclear physics, condensed matter physics, as well as in areas of applied research. The Indian delegation learnt about the flagship projects and key objects of the scientific infrastructure of JINR.
