SCST of the Republic of Belarus turns 30On 1 December, the representatives of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research took part in the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Topical issues of ensuring scientific and technological safety", dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the founding of the State Committee on Science and Technology (SCST) of the Republic of Belarus.Speakers from JINR presented two key drivers of the Institute's innovative development: the NICA megascience project and JINR's large IT infrastructure. At the event, the upcoming opening of JINR cloud cluster at JIENR-Sosny was announced and an initiative for further expansion of cooperation with organizations of the Republic of Belarus in terms of innovation and applied research is foreseen. The purpose of the Conference was to discuss mechanisms for increasing the efficiency of the national innovation system of the Republic of Belarus. Issues of cooperation with external partners were raised, primarily, within the Union State of Russia and Belarus, as well as with research centres and innovative companies from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Using the example of individual CIS countries, issues of scientific and technological development and priorities in the innovative development of these states were considered. The JINR delegation was represented by JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov, JINR Vice-Director Vladimir Kekelidze, Scientific Leader of the Laboratory of Information Technologies Vladimir Korenkov, Special Representative of JINR Director for Educational Policy Samvel Harutyunyan and Deputy Head of the Department of Scientific Methodological Research and Innovation of the Laboratory of High Energy Physics for Science Oleg Belov. In his congratulations on the occasion of the anniversary, Grigory Trubnikov emphasized that cooperation between JINR and the Committee has been developing since the very day of the founding of the State Committee on Science and Technology that is a member of the International Innovative Nanotechnology Centre "Dubna". Fundamental developments in the field of medicine, research into DNA regeneration processes, the neutron activation analysis in ecology and biomonitoring, satellite systems and computer computing are jointly implemented. SCST has contributed to the development of cooperation between JINR and Belarusian universities: over 30 years, several thousand highly qualified researchers have been trained. JINR Director announced that in the future, a JINR cloud cluster for working with big data will be developed at the Joint Institute for Energy and Nuclear Research Sosny near Minsk. One such cluster already operates on the territory of the Republic of Belarus - at the Institute of Nuclear Problems of the Belarusian State University. www.jinr.ru
