At Dubna University

Photo chronicle of the path to success

On 2 September, a photo exhibition dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Dubna University opened next to the art object "Solar System" near the Culture Centre "Mir".

All the stages of the history of the Dubna University are presented at the exhibition. In the first photographs, one can see the founders - the first directors of the University, representatives of the Dubna Administration, Directors of JINR Academicians V.G.Kadyshevsky, A.N.Sisakyan. The photo with the symbolic first student card is also remarkable.

Those whose lives are united to the University know how many obstacles had to be overcome to establish this educational institution, how the status and name have changed, the geography of applicants has expanded and the university has steadily increased the rankings. The 30-year history unites the conviction of famous scientists in the value of education, the pedagogical talent of the faculty, the successes of students, the subsequent achievements of graduates, many events, conferences and schools that involve citizens of Dubna, Moscow Region, regions of Russia and other countries in the university orbit.

The photographs of the exhibition take visitors to the university auditoriums, to scientific laboratories, to student initiation ceremonies, to excursions around JINR. Portraits of leading employees will remind students and graduates of their exam sessions and coursework and city guests will recognize among them world-famous scientists O.L.Kuznetsov, Yu.Ts.Oganessian.

The social and cultural aspect has not been forgotten either - the participation of students in city and off-site events. Young, energetic, cheerful faces look at the visitors from photo posters - our hope, future engineers, scientists, programmers… They also fill the streets of the city, making it dynamic and modern.

From medicine to new energy

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation has approved the advanced scientific projects of Dubna University. They correspond to the priority areas of the Strategy for Scientific and Technological Development of the Russian Federation and will be implemented within the framework of the state assignment.

Some of the papers are dedicated to research in the field of energy. The project "Investigation of electrolytes with high ionic conductivity and extended operating temperature range for primary and secondary chemical current sources" is relevant concerning the transition to environmentally sound and resource-saving energy. The project "Development and experimental investigations of lithium-ion batteries for on-board power sources of a new generation of rocket and space and operated aviation equipment" is important for the development of promising and import-substituted current sources both in the civil industry and in the military-industrial complex. These projects are supervised by Head of the Research and Design and Technology Centre for Electrochemical Engineering of the University Viktor Krivchenko.

Reducing the unevenness of energy production and consumption is the central task of the project "Development of a methodology for obtaining and studying heat-accumulating materials based on salt crystal hydrates for energy-saving tasks". Scientists work in this area under the supervision of Director of the Scientific Research Centre "Innovative Technologies for the Production and Application of FPTAM in Power Plants on Vehicles", Head of the Department of Chemistry, New Technologies and Materials Svetlana Morzhukhina.

Research in the field of health preservation is carried out in the University as well. Thus, a group of scientists supervised by one of the founders of the Dubna Physicochemical Scientific School Professor Pavel Gladyshev work on the project "Conjugates of boron-containing quantum dots with biovectors for diagnostics and boron neutron capture therapy of superficial malignant tumors". This is a new step towards high-tech and personalized medicine.

The project of Head of the Research Centre Alexey Averkin "Application of explanatory artificial intelligence for interpreting machine learning algorithms" is aimed at meeting issues in healthcare, as well as radiation biology in terms of increasing the efficiency of data interpretation.
