Air quality matters most

In 2019, at the initiative of the UN General Assembly, 7 September was declared the International Day of Clean Air for blue skies.

For the past five years, on this day, the world community called on states and peoples to raise general awareness and promote measures to improve air quality and to prevent environmental pollution.

This year, on 7 September, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) held a webinar to mark the International Day of Clean Air for blue skies. Marina Frontasyeva, Advisor to FLNP Directorate, spoke at the online event as an invited expert with a report on the UN Air Programme for Europe and its promotion to Asia and the Pacific Rim countries. The webinar, organized by the international community of women scientists "Women in Nuclear Global Young Generation (WiNYG)", attracted a large number of participants, demonstrating a universal interest in preserving the environment.

The event was designed to raise awareness of air pollution and its impact on human health and the environment. The webinar brought together environmental and life science experts from around the world and became a platform for building a community of active people interested in improving air quality.

In her speech, Marina Frontasyeva spoke about the threats concerning air pollution by organic and inorganic chemicals. She also spoke about the environmental research of the Joint Institute in the field of biomonitoring with mosses using nuclear and physical analytical techniques. The use of these techniques has proven its efficiency not only in the field of air quality control, but also for estimating the condition of soil and water. At the request of young scientists - participants of the webinar, she left contacts for possible cooperation.
