Ambassador of Republic of India to Russia visited JINR
On 23 January, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Russian Federation Vinay Kumar visited the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. The visit’s programme included a meeting with the group of Indian JINR employees and a visit to the NICA Accelerator Complex at the Laboratory of High Energy Physics and enterprises of the Dubna Special Economic Zone. Plans to further strenghten the JINR–India relations were discussed at a meeting at the JINR Directorate.
During the meeting at the Directorate of the Joint Institute, JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov thanked Vinay Kumar for his decision to come to Dubna as one of the first official visits after his appointment as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Russian Federation. He noted that the cooperation between the Joint Institute and the Republic of India dates back more than half a century. Currently, 12 Indian researchers are working in several laboratories of the Institute. In addition, a number of experts represent the Republic of India in the Joint Institute’s Advisory Bodies. More than 200 collaborative scientific articles by Indian and JINR researchers are published annually. Overall, the relations with Indian scientists are becoming stronger each year.
“We are very serious about expanding cooperation with Indian researchers. When collaborating with our partner countries, we strive to align with each country’s national priorities. India has great scientific and technological potential and many areas of interest for JINR and our Member States, not only in theoretical and particle physics, but also in applied research, medicine, biology, life sciences, ecology, and information technology, fields in which India is among the world leaders,” Grigory Trubnikov emphasised. The JINR Director highlighted that in 2023, the Institute held the India-JINR Frontiers of Basic and Applied Research Workshop with about 200 participants. “This year, we intend to organize a number of joint meetings in scientific areas of common interest,” Grigory Trubnikov added.
“India mastered all branches of science and technology at a remarkable pace and made many achievements with the participation of Soviet and Russian scientists. Thus, we have experience working together; over the past couple of decades, India expanded international cooperation as well,” Ambassador noted.
During the meeting, the parties discussed plans for bilateral visits for the partners from India to become more familiar with the Institute’s scientific activities and expand cooperation. Another prominent topic was the prospects for establishing a Joint JINR–India Coordination Committee, similar to those that effectively operate between the Institute and countries such as China, Mexico, and South Africa. Grigory Trubnikov invited representatives of India to participate in the session of the Committee of Plenipotentiaries of the Governments of the JINR Member States this March.
The delegation included First Secretary of the Embassy Vivek Singh, Advisors to Ambassador Ramkumar Thangaraj (Economic and Commercial Wing of the Embassy) and Anand Kamavisdar (Science and Technology Wing), and Secretary of the Ambassador for Social Issues Anna Galovich.
The Institute was represented by JINR Chief Scientific Secretary, Executive for Contacts between the Institute and India Sergey Nedelko, Head of the International Cooperation Department Otilia-Ana Culicov, Scientific Secretary of the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions Alexander Karpov, and Head of the National Group of India Aniruddha Dey.
