I would like to be taught to become a turner...

At the beginning of 2022, the training of the DLNP employees who wanted to master the skills of working on universal turning and milling machines started at the Dubna University College.

Experience in processing materials on traditional machine tools will be useful for a more meaningful approach to working on modern CNC equipment. Training takes place under the supervision of experienced mentors who control technological processes and compliance with safety requirements. Upon completion of training and after passing qualification exams, employees will receive certificates of turners and millers. These documents will give the right to carry out relevant work in their subdivisions and in the DLNP Centre for Collective Use.

Mechanical elements are an integral part of the design of any research equipment: from portable devices to large physical facilities of the megascience level. Many employees who are engaged in applied research regularly face the need to manufacture various auxiliary devices, measuring and test devices in their daily practice.

A significant part of these devices, in addition to mass-produced components, consists of a variety of non-standard parts. Electronic, optical devices, scintillation and Cherenkov counters, gas detectors, cryogenic, gas and vacuum equipment, measuring, test facilities and stands - this is an incomplete list of technics, the manufacture of which is rather hard and requires extra work on the preparation of mechanical elements.

Here, invaluable assistance is provided by highly qualified employees of the Experimental Production Workshop, whose gifted hands have been constructing unique devices and facilities for several decades that are used not only at JINR, but also at other scientific institutes.

At the same time, part of the work is traditionally performed by experimenters and engineers themselves. In some cases, they use metal-cutting machines that allow to produce parts with high precision. It is needed to ensure that the elements of the equipment are interchangeable, errors are small, the repeatability of the measurement results is high and the operation of facilities is reliable and safe.

The ability to manufacture and modify parts directly at the workplace and in specialized workshops with the admission of trained employees to work on machines can significantly advance designing, repair and commissioning.
