Renal diseases will be treated in the Medical Unit No.9

On 31 March, a significant event took place in the Medical Unit No.9 for the citizens of the right-bank part of Dubna, as well as for the employees of enterprises attached to the Medical Unit. A new hemodialysis department was solemnly opened in the medical institution.

What treatment options will be available to patients suffering from chronic renal failure and other nephrological diseases?

"Brain" and "heart"

The hemodialysis department is located in the therapeutic building of the Medical Unit No.9. The ribbon at the entrance to the department was solemnly cut in the presence of representatives of Dubna Administration and city media by Head of the Medical Unit No.9 Irina Larionova, Chief Physician of Medical Group LLC, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Transplantology, nephrology and artificial organs of SBHI of the Moscow Region "Moscow Regional Research Clinical Institute named after M.F.Vladimirsky" Dmitry Artemov and Deputy Head of Dubna Administration Maksim Tikhomirov.

The guests were shown a spacious treatment room. There are 10 chairs for patients, each seat is equipped with advanced equipment of American and Japanese production. In the process of blood purification from toxins, the "smart" electronic module also monitors the patient's condition based on the principle of biofeedback. If, for example, the patient's blood pressure drops during renal replacement therapy, the settings of the device automatically change. In addition, an alarm signal is sent to the doctor so that he can quickly intervene in the process.

"The medical equipment presented here can be figuratively called the "brain" of the hemodialysis department," D.Artyomov commented. And then he invited the guests to another room where the "heart" of the medical complex is located - unique equipment for water treatment. With its help, ordinary tap water is brought to a crystal clear state that is required on contact with the patient's blood in the process of removing uremic toxins from the body. After all, even the minimum occurrence of impurities in the water can adversely affect the patient's condition.

By using advanced medical technology, nephrologists are not only able to save patients' lives with renal failure, but also to significantly improve their life quality. Modern techniques allow patients to more comfortably endure the hemodialysis procedure and improve their well-being. It is already not uncommon for young women suffering from renal disease not to have to terminate their pregnancy, they give birth to healthy children, D.Artyomov explained.

The hemodialysis department will be able to receive up to 72 patients per shift, I.Larionova cited. Two qualified nephrologists and two nurses have been recruited for the new department. Doctors are ready to provide assistance both in a hospital and at home to those who need peritoneal dialysis. The Medical Unit has received a license to treat renal diseases.

The opening of the hemodialysis department coincided with the next, 67th anniversary of the foundation of the Medical Unit No.9. On 31 March, a solemn meeting of the staff and awarding of the best employees was held on this occasion.

Curator of the Medical Unit No.9 from the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research Grigory Shirkov delivered a welcoming speech. He thanked the doctors and nurses of the Medical Unit for their long-term care for the health of JINR staff. The representative of the Institute highlighted the contribution of Head Irina Larionova to the development and modernization of the Medical Unit No.9: "Over the past two years, new modern departments have been established in the Medical Unit, equipped at the most advanced level, the medical staff has doubled, replenished with new qualified personnel. This is an unprecedented achievement in such a short time." Grigory Shirkov wished the staff of the Medical Unit No.9 further success and assured that JINR, for its part, would provide the Medical Unit with further all possible support.
