The 80th anniversary of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan
was celebrated

On 12 and 13 December, JINR representatives took part in anniversary events in Tashkent on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan (AS RUz).

Members of the Institute's delegation took part in the international conference "Science - the foundation of a new Uzbekistan", visited an exhibition of innovative developments and an exposition dedicated to the history of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Highlighting the outstanding results of the development of cooperation, Head of the JINR delegation Vice-Director of JINR Lachesar Kostov especially mentioned the launch of a unique highly sensitive analytical neutron diffraction facility and a cloud computing cluster that integrates the computing resources of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan into the JINR cloud system. The parties see great prospects in the training of qualified national scientific personnel. Thus, this year, agreements were signed on the implementation by scientific laboratories of the Joint Institute of educational programmes for the preparation of masters at the Dubna State University together with leading universities of Uzbekistan.

Lachesar Kostov reported that over 67 years of cooperation, over 200 scientists and specialists from Uzbekistan have completed the JINR scientific school and Uzbek physical science has been replenished with more than forty doctors and one hundred candidates of science. Five JINR employees have become academicians of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan and over the years, they have headed research and educational institutions of the republic.
