Being friends with newspapers

The collector Dmitry Ratnikov has recently turned to the editorial office of the weekly to purchase a copy of our newspaper. We were happy to send him a couple of issues and asked him to tell us about himself and his hobby.

I am from St. Petersburg but I started the collection in December, 2002 in a completely different city. At that time, I came to my grandparents in Lipetsk as a schoolboy and bought some local newspapers before New Year's Eve. After a short time, the "format" of the collection was developed, only those newspapers were included in it that have the names of cities and villages where they are published in their titles. So, that it was immediately obvious where they came from.

Today, the collection numbers 678 newspapers from different regions of Russia - from the Kaliningrad Region to the Kamchatka Territory, from the Kola Peninsula to the Caucasus. My favorite way to replenish it is traveling. I often travel around the country by car and try to bring not only impressions but also newspapers from each place. Only last year, I visited Vologda, Novgorod, Pskov, Moscow, Smolensk, Tver, Yaroslavl, Ivanovo, Nizhny Novgorod, Vladimir, Kostroma regions, Karelia, Chuvashia, Mari El, Tatarstan, Moscow. But it is not always possible to bring issues. Newspaper stands, if there are any, are almost always open only on weekdays in the afternoon, editorial offices, too and corporate newspapers cannot be bought "off the street" at all.

Of course, regional and district newspapers are mainly in the collection. But there are a lot of newspapers that enterprises publish for their employees. These are factories and carriers and universities. It is extremely rare to see scientific newspapers today, in general, these are scientific magazines. One of these newspapers has recently been the newspaper "Dubna: Science, Cooperation, Progress". Moreover, this is not just a modern company newspaper, the newspaper has an almost 70-year story that in our times happens quite rarely. By the way, I visited Dubna for the first time in September.

Besides collecting, trips around the country bring another joy. For "St. Petersburg Vedomosti" I write travel notes about those cities where I visited. Two of them were dedicated to the Moscow region, about the village of Lotoshino and the city of Taldom. Dubna, of course, is in plans.
